Karl Claxton is an Analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute. He has a PhD in International Relations and a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies. His main research interests focus on Melanesia, conflict in developing countries, and Australia’s security partnerships. Karl has worked in the Attorney-General’s Department, Australian Crime Commission, and Defence Department. At Defence he had Director roles in three of International Policy Division’s four geographic branches, served as Policy Adviser to Commander JTF633 in Baghdad (2005-06), and worked as 1st Secretary Defence at the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby (2011-12).
