Afghanistan troop increases

by Sam Roggeveen - 17 June 2008 11:20AM

ABC radio this morning gave substantial coverage to UK PM Gordon Brown's announcement that the UK would increase its Afghanistan troop commitment by 230. At time of writing, it is the top item on the ABC's world news page too. It seems like a lot of coverage for a relatively modest troop increase. Meanwhile, according to Ares (Aviation Week's blog), Germany looks set to commit another 1000 troops to Afghanistan. I can't see any other media reporting this story yet, so it may come to nothing, but if confirmed, it will be interesting to see what kind of attention it gets in the Australian media.

Interpreting the Aid Review

This is the archive of a Lowy Institute blog which ran from January to April of 2011. It was published to debate the Gillard Government's independent aid review, which was then in its research and consultation phase. We offer this archive as a service to researchers and the general public.
