Program Director - West Asia
Anthony Bubalo’s principal research interest is the politics of the Middle East. Key themes of his work include Islamism, democratisation and Middle East-Asia linkages. Major publications include, with Dr Greg Fealy, 'Joining the Caravan? The Middle East, Islamism and Indonesia'. Before joining the Lowy Institute, Anthony served in Australian diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia and Israel and was Senior Middle East Analyst with the Office of National Assessments. He was also director of the Policy and Coordination Unit of the Australian government's Iraq Task Force, and immediately prior to joining the Lowy Institute, Anthony was DFAT's Senior Speechwriter.
